Real Madrid are set to hand striker KarimBenzema a new deal for his efforts in helping the team to yet another Champions League title.
The French star netted 17 times in all competitions last term as Real did a double, lifting the La Liga title despite last minute heated chase from Barcelona.
The Spanish side is reportedly set to land AS Monaco teenage star KylianMbappe this summer in a world record deal. There are fears that the club would sell of the player with Arsenal and a few other top sides are named interested employers.
There were reports that Mbappe would not agree to the deal if one of Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale does not leave. Benzema was the likely candidate to be kicked out as Ronaldo was a player emeritus and Bale was yet to fully deliver the goods for his record move.
Marca claims rather Zinedine Zidane wants to tie Benzema further at the Bernabeu until 2021. His current deal is set to lapse in 2019 but his compatriot wants to lengthen it – a move that could see the player end his career at the club. The Spanish new source claims discussions have started already.
Benzema has been at the club since 2009 when he moved from Lyon. The 29-year old has been a success at the club and the deal would be applauded following his recent surge in performance.
While Zidane would have one more player at his disposal if the £161 million deal for Mbappe happens, it might cause headache in rotating the team. The player is young and pacy and can help the aging attack at the front but there are niggling selection issues that might come up.
