A string of underwhelming results have led to GuusHiddink being sacked

GuusHiddink’s reign in charge of the Dutch national football team lasted for 1 year and 3 months as he took charge of the national side on March of 2014 and it reached it’s end on June 2015.

When he signed his contract as the coach of Netherlands, the terms in this deal originally stated that Hiddink was going to be the manager of the national team at least until the 2016 Euro’s but his time at the helm did not survive as long due to a string of unsatisfying results.

With Louis van Gaal at the helm, Netherlands was able to make it into the semifinals of the 2014 as they overcame opponents such as: Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain, Chile and Australia before eventually being eliminated when facing off with Argentina.

Despite being knocked out in the semifinals by Argentina, it was still an impressive campaign for Louis van Gaal and his players. Things quickly began to take a downhill path after Louis van Gaal decided to step down from coaching the national side as he took charge of Manchester United.

GuusHiddink was the man selected to replace Louis van Gaal and Hiddink struggled trying to secure consistent victories as they lost against Italy, Czech Republic and Iceland. Netherlands is even in danger of not qualifying into the 2016 Euro’s as they are currently positioned in the 3rd spot of Group A after only being able to secure 10 points from 6 matches. Iceland and Czech Republic are ahead of them in the group. Read More
